Research

Adhoc projects

1. Media management for popularization of viable Home Science technologies 2011-12
Media is the means of communication to reach a large number of people. Media management is process of getting the messages known to a wider range of people. The present form of effective media is new media, which is a broad term that emerged in the later part of the twentieth century. New media holds out a possibility of on-demand access to content anytime, anywhere, on any digital device, as well as interactive user feedback, creative participation and community formation around the media content. Another important promise of new media is the democratization of the creation, publishing, distribution and consumption of media content. New media products are developed and disseminated through student research well as through KVKs.

2. ICT mediated extension services for dissemination of quality life technologies, funded under RKVY 2012-13 to till date
ICT is a mass communication approach. Hence it has the capability of bridging the gap in technology dissemination systems. Any ICT intervention that improves the livelihoods of poor rural families is likely to have significant impact both direct and indirect, on enhancing agricultural production, marketing and post-harvest activities – which, in turn, can contribute further to poverty reduction.
Services provided under the project

  • Content dissemination through articles in vigyanasaadhitha.com, a vernacular (telugu) website
  • Text and voice short message service on health alerts
  • Online quiz
  • Apps- calculation of BMI and Body frame
  • Video lessons with VARK compatibility
  • Interaction with scientists through skype conference.

3. Documentation of processes and outcomes of innovative approaches in ICDS, project funded by UNICEF – 2013-14
Health and nutrition are the primary concerns of human development. Since five decades ICDS is in operation all over the country to take care of child nutrition and health right from conception stage to six years of age, so as to address the major causes of child under nutrition. Similarly, early child education is also paid adequate attention to expose the child through play to learning environment. UNICEF has introduced certain interventions to strengthen the delivery system of ICDS.

  • Inclusive model on nutrition as a supportive mechanism to improve the utilization of Anganwadi centers by the tribal community in Paderu, AP.
  • Accreditation system in anganwadi centers of   ICDS project, Tumkur, Karnataka.
  • Accelerated measures employed to tackle  child under nutrition (SANKALP-II) in Medak, Telangana state.

The processes and outcomes of those interventions were video documented. CDs are available in English, Hindi and Telugu/Kanada.
